James Stephen Bucknall Doak

Biographical Summary:

James Stephen Bucknall Doak was born 1 April 1898, twin brother of Anthony and son of Dr Frank Wiseman Doak and the former Mabel Bucknall. He grew up in the family home Warrender at Mosman and in February 1909 entered The Kings School as a boarder. He enlisted on 25 February 1918 in 35th Field Artillery and embarked on Orontes in June 1918. He landed in France and marched to Rouelles and served until the Armistice. After demobilisation, James remained in England and entered Keble College, Oxford as a student in Arts and graduated with Honours in History. On returning to Australia he taught at The Armidale School and then joined the staff of his old school -Kings- in 1930. James Jimmy was highly regarded as a man and a teacher. He died 30 June, 1955.
