Biographical Summary:
A jackeroo who enlisted in the AIF on 14 May 1917. He embarked for Egypt on 16 November and arrived on 21 December 1917.
He joined the 6th Australian Light Horse Regiment (ALH) on 16 February 1918. He wounded (left leg) in action on 27 March and evacuated to Egypt for treatment and convalescence. He rejoined his unit on 13 May 1918.
He embarked for Australia on 28 June 1919 and arrived on 3 August then was discharged from the AIF on 27 August 1919.
He enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force on 2 July 1940. While serving with 17 Anti-Tank Battery on New Britain he was captured by the Japanese earlier in 1942. He died when the Montevideo Maru, packed with Australian prisoners of war, was sunk by the American submarine USS Sturgeon on 1 July 1942 off the northern Phillipines coast. [JSB]
