Biographical Summary:
Twin bother of Alan Oatley with whom he enlisted in the AIF on 3 July 1916. Both served in the 4th Battery, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade.
Both were wounded in action on 1 October 1917 when their battery was firing registration rounds in preparation for the Battle of Broodseinde Ridge which began on 4 October 1917.
He suffered gun shot wounds to his head. He received treatment in France and returned to duty after three weeks. He was severely gassed on 5 November 1917 when his unit was near Zonnebeke. He was sent to England for treatment and returned to his unit in March 1918. [JSB]
