Biographical Summary:
A carpenter who enlisted in the AIF in May 1916, a month after his 18th birthday. He joined the 1st Pioneer Battalion in May 1917. He was wounded in action (gunshot wound to his scalp) on 20 September 1917, when the battalion was carrying out construction work at the front line near Zillebeke, Belgium. After treatment in France and England, he returned to his unit in March 1918. He returned to Australia in July 1919. [JSB]
