Biographical Summary:
At the time of enlistment Errol Henry Cohen changed his surname to Cowen.
He served at Gallipoli as a Gunner with the 3rd Field Artillery Brigade. He was evacuated in late August 1915 with shell shock and an injured back. After treatment in Malta and England he returned to Egypt in March 1916.
Shortly after, he joined the Australian Provost Corps, Egyptian Section. He rose through the ranks and eventually received his commission in March 1918.
After his return to Australia he married Eilene Brown of Mosman, and they settled in Brisbane where his parents had moved in late 1915. [JSB]
