Biographical Summary:
An engineer who enlisted in South Australia in the AIF in January 1915. He embarked for Egypt at Adelaide with the 27th Battalion on 31 May 1915.
He served at Gallipoli where he was promoted to Sergeant. He became acting Company Sergeant Major at the end of 1915 for nearly three months. Due to illness, he did not go with the 27th to France in late March 1916. On 1 August 1916 he departed from Alexandria for France.
In November 1916 he was evacuated to England for medical treatment. He was found to be medically unfit and embarked for Australia on 4 May 1917. He arrived on 2 July 1917 and was discharged from the AIF three days later. [JSB]
