Biographical Summary:
A butter maker who enlisted in the AIF on 13 September 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 11 March 1916.
He arrived at Marseilles, France on 26 Jun 1916 and after passing through holding units in northern France, he joined the 30th Battalion on 6 August 1916. He was evacuated to hospital on 29 November suffering from trench feet. After initial treatment in France he was evacuated to England on 13 January 1917. The effects of the condition eventually resulted in the amputation of his feet.
He embarked on 25 November 1917 for Australia on a hospital ship. He arrived on 12 January 1918 then, following further treatment and convalescence, he was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 12 July 1918. [JSB]
