Biographical Summary:
A public servant who enlisted in the AIF on 11 December 1916. He embarked for England on 7 February and arrived on 12 April 1917.
He joined the 20th Battalion at Steenvoorde, France on 8 November 1917. He was evacuated from the front line in Belgium on 27 January 1918 to hospital initially in France then England suffering from rheumatism and neurasthenia. Following treatment and convalescence, in April he commenced retraining to return to his unit. In June, he transferred to the Machine Gun Corps.
On 15 September 1918, he joined the 2nd Machine Gun Battalion at Cappy, France. On 26 February 1919 he was transferred to AIF Headquarters in London.
He embarked for Australia on 18 December 1919 and arrived on 7 February then was discharged from the AIF on 11 April 1920. [JSB]
