Biographical Summary:
A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 12 June 1916 aged 16 years and 8 months; understating his age by 18 months. He embarked for England on 17 November and arrived on 29 January 1917.
He immediately commenced training as a reinforcement for the 30th Battalion. On 28 February he was transferred to hospital and treated for rheumatism. Following discharge from hospital, in June he was sent to the 4th Command Depot which was a holding unit. In April 1918, he was sent to the 2nd Command Depot in anticipation of his return to Australia after being diagnosed with myocarditis.
He embarked on 12 May 1918 and arrived on 7 July then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 9 October 1918. [JSB]
