Biographical Summary:

A medical practitioner who was appointed to the AIF on 3 April 1918. He embarked for England on 17 July and arrived on 27 September 1918.

The following is a summary of his service prepared for Sydney University:

“Ormond Gillespie Tunks, M.B., Ch.M. : Captain, A.A.M.C., A.I.F., France and England. … (he) was with 1st Australian Field Ambulance nominally, but served with British Labour Corps and Prisoner of War Camps in France after some time in various training depots, including Fovant and Hurdcott. Finally was with remnants of 13th Brigade, 2nd A.F.Amb. and then 50th and 51st Battns. at Aiseau and later at Longbridge Deverell, Parkhouse and elsewhere until demobilisation.” Source: Beyond 1914 – The University of Sydney and the Great War.

He embarked for Australia on 6 September 1919 and arrived on 8 November then his appointment in the AIF was terminated on 23 November 1919. [JSB]
