Biographical Summary:
A grocer’s assistant who overstated his age by two years when he enlisted in the AIF on 31 August 1915 aged 16 years and 8 months. He embarked for Egypt on 15 January 1916.
He arrived at Marseilles, France on 4 April 1916 and while with a holding unit on 20 April was evacuated to hospital at Etaples, France with suspected scarlet fever. A month later he was evacuated to England suffering from debility. Following treatment and convalescence he was discharged on 25 July to commence training prior to returning to France.
On 24 September 1916 he joined the 3rd Battalion then in a rest area near Busseboom, Belgium.
He embarked for Australia on 20 June 1919 and arrived on 10 August then was discharged from the AIF on 3 October 1919. [JSB]
