Biographical Summary:
A clerk who enlisted in the Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (ANMEF) on 11 August 1914. He embarked for German New Guinea on 19 August and returned to Australia for discharge from the ANMEF on 18 January 1915.
He enlisted in the AIF on 1 June and embarked for Egypt on 19 June 1915. He joined the 19th Battalion at Gallipoli on 25 October and was evacuated to Alexandria, Egypt with enteric on 9 November. A day after his discharge from convalescence on 21 December, he was again admitted to hospital suffering from a recurrence of malaria which he had contracted while serving with the ANMEF. It was decided that he should return to Australia.
He embarked on 9 February 1916 and arrived on 13 March then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 13 July 1916. [JSB]
