Biographical Summary:
A draper who enlisted in the AIF on 17 July 1915. He embarked for Egypt with the 31st Battalion on 9 November and arrived on 7 December 1915.
The Battalion arrived at Marseille, France on 23 June 1916 and moved immediately to Morbecque in northern France. On 11 July the Battalion moved into the front line for the first time near Bois-Grenier south of Armentieres, France.
He was killed in action on 20 July during the Battalion’s attack on the German front line which had started the previous day. He was among the 71 killed out 576 casualties that the Battalion suffered in that action which ultimately led to no territorial gains.
He nominated as his next of kin Herbert William Weaver who was a cook with the Royal Australian Engineers at Georges Heights, Mosman. Weaver was his brother-in-law by marriage to his sister Ellen Power, who had died in 1913. [JSB]
