Biographical Summary:
A seaman and cook who enlisted in the AIF on 22 October 1914. He embarked for Egypt on 22 December 1914. There is a gap in his records between then and his departure from England on 12 July 1915.
He joined the 17th Ammunition Sub-Park at Steenvoorde in northern France on 28 August 1915. In June 1916 he was redeployed to a holding depot before joining the 4th Australian Ammunition Sub-Park at the time of its formation in early August 1916 at Rubempre north of Amiens, France.
From November 1916 to July 1917 he was treated in France and England for influenza and dysentery. On his return to France he was transferred to the 5th Australian Divisional Supply Column (ADSC) then in November 1917 to the 4th ADSC. Then in March 1918 he joined the 4th Australian Divisional Mechanical Transport Company. He was evacuated to England in August 1918 suffering from neuralgia.
He embarked for Australia on 8 November 1918 and arrived on 29 December then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 14 July 1919. [JSB]
