Biographical Summary:
A baker who enlisted in the AIF on 4 July 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 30 September 1915.
He joined the 20th Battalion at Gallipoli on 12 November 1915. Following the withdrawal in December, the Battalion returned to Egypt on 9 January 1916. It remained there until March when it was transferred to France. It arrived at Marseille on 25 March and immediately moved to northern France.
He was wounded (left hip) in action on 17 September when his unit was in the front line near Ypres, Belgium. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
On 23 June 1917, he transferred to the Provost Corps. He remained in England until his return to France in October 1918. Following various Provost Corps duties he returned to England in June 1919.
He elected to be discharged from the AIF in the UK on 31 December 1919. [JSB]
