Biographical Summary:
A carter who enlisted in the AIF on 8 August 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 10 December 1915.
On 6 March 1916 he was allotted to the 45th Battalion which arrived in Marseilles, France on 8 June and immediately moved to Bailleul in northern France.
He was wounded (multiple gunshot wounds) in action on 11 October 1917 when his unit was in the vicinity of Zonnebeke, Belgium. Following initial treatment in France, he was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence. His left thumb was amputated because of the extent of damage to his hand. He was released from hospital in January 1918 and transferred to a holding depot awaiting his return to Australia.
He embarked on 6 June 1918 and arrived on 31 July then was discharged from the AIF on 12 October 1918. [JSB]
