Biographical Summary:
A clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 7 August 1917. he embarked for England on 31 October and arrived on 26 December 1917.
He joined the 1st Battalion on 24 April 1918 when it was in a rest area at Thieushouk, France. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 10 August 1918 near Cerisy, France. He was among 19 members of his unit gassed that night by artillery fire. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence.
He rejoined his battalion in France on 5 December. He was evacuated on 10 December to hospital in France with influenza, then he developed pneumonia. He eventually was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence on 25 January 1919.
He embarked for Australia on 31 May 1919 and arrived on 13 July then was discharged from the AIF on 6 August 1919.
He served in the Second AIF between 1941 and 1945 including with the 2/13th Battalion in the Middle East. [JSB]
