James Edward Macfarlane

Biographical Summary:
A commercial traveller who enlisted in the AIF on 10 September 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 2 November 1915 as a reinforcement for the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment.
On 27 March 1916 he was allotted to the 10th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) which landed at Marseilles, France on 15 June and moved to northern France. He was transferred to the 4th Divisional Ammunition Column on 7 July then to the 11th FAB on 5 January 1917.
In September 1917 he was sent to England to attend an officer cadet course at St Johns Wood, England. He was appointed a Second Lieutenant on 14 March 1918 and rejoined the 10th FAB. He was wounded (chest, right arm) in action near Villers-Brettoneux on 29 July. He was evacuated for treatment and died on wounds at Vignacourt, France the next day.
His mother was living at Mosman at the time of his death. [JSB]
