Biographical Summary:
A horse hair curler who enlisted in the AIF on 8 September 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 20 December 1915.
He was allotted in February 1916 to the 54th Battalion which arrived at Marseilles, France on 29 June 1916 and immediately went to northern France. He was wounded (right leg and foot. left buttock and thigh) in action on 15 May 1917 when the Germans heavily bombarded and then launched an unsuccessful attack to recapture part of the Hindenburg Line, near Riencourt-les-Cagnicourt, France held by the 54th Battalion. That day the unit had 61 killed, 9 die of wound, 11 missing and 201 wounded. He was evacuated to England for treatment.
He embarked for Austalia on 3 July and arrived on 29 August 1917. Following further treatment and convalescence, he was discharged from the AIF on 25 February 1918. [JSB]
