Biographical Summary:
A cook who enlisted in the AIF on 2 August 1915, aged 40, understating his age by five years. He embarked for Egypt on 21 March 1916.
He joined the 1st Australian Light Horse Field Ambulance in Egypt on 5 May 1916. He was evacuated suffering from shell shock on 16 July 1918, two days after his unit had been bombed and machine gunned by enemy aircraft when it was in the Jordan Valley.
He embarked for Australia on 22 December 1918 and arrived on 22 January then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 4 March 1919. [JSB]
