Biographical Summary:
A station overseer who enlisted in the AIF on 30 September 1914. He embarked for Egypt with the 6th Light Horse Regiment (ALH) on 21 December and arrived on 1 February 1915.
The 6th ALH landed at Gallipoli on 20 May 1915. He was evacuated from the front line on 24 September then evacuated to hospital at Malta suffering from rheumatic fever. Following treatment and convalescence, he rejoined his unit in Egypt on 23 January 1916.
On 27 March he was transferred to the 15th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) which arrived at Marseilles, France on 24 June 1916 and immediately moved to Le Havre in northern France.
He was transferred on 27 January 1917 to the 6th FAB, then shortly after, on 9 February to the 3rd FAB. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 29 October near Westouter, Belgium. After being evacuated for initial treatment in France, he was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence. It was decided that he should return to Australia.
He embarked on 10 March 1918 and arrived on 12 May then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 13 August 1918. [JSB]
