Biographical Summary:
A carter who enlisted in the AIF on 13 March 1916. He embarked for England on 22 August and arrived on 13 October.
He joined the 18th Battalion at Dernancourt, France on 23 January 1917 when the battalion was out of the front line and resting. He was wounded (left buttock) in action on 20 September when the battalion participated in the attack on Westhoek Ridge east of Ypres, Belgium. He was among the more than 200 casualties the battalion suffered that day. He was evacuated to England for treatment and convalescence. He was found to be medically unfit so returned to Australia.
He embarked on 13 March and arrived on 23 May 1918. He continued to receive medical treatment and was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 22 November 1918. [JSB]
