Biographical Summary:
A miner who enlisted as John Hosking in the AIF on 25 April 1917. He embarked for Egypt on 9 May and arrived on 20 June.
He joined the Imperial Camel Corps on 23 August 1917. He was evacuated from Jericho on 16 April 1918 to hospital in Egypt suffering from gastritis. Following treatment and convalescence, he was transferred to the Camel Corps Base Depot at Abassia on 22 May. Late the following month he was again hospitalised and diagnosed as having arterio sclerosis. It was decided that he should return to Australia.
He embarked on 30 August and arrived on 3 October 1918 then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 7 January 1919. [JSB]
