Biographical Summary:
A surveyor’s chainman and mechanic who enlisted in the AIF on 31 July 1916. He embarked for England on 24 January 1917 and arrived on 23 March 1917.
After further training in England, he joined the 30th Battalion in France on 22 November 1917. He was wounded in action on 27 August 1918 during an attack on the German held village of Foucaucourt but remained on duty.
He, along with a number of other AIF soldiers, was given leave for 12 months to study agriculture at Davis University in California, USA. They left England on 26 August and arrived in the USA on 4 September 1919. He departed for Australia on 21 September 1920 and arrived on 12 October 1920. He was discharged from the AIF on 23 March 1921. [JSB]
