Biographical Summary:
A labourer who enlisted in the AIF in 1916 using the name Alfred Bishop rather than his birth name Alphonsus Bishop. He embarked for England on 25 November 1916 and arrived on 29 January 1917.
He served with the 45th Battalion from 1 April 1917. Less than two weeks later he was sent to hospital in France and was eventually evacuated to England. He returned to his unit in December 1917 and was killed in action on 28 April 1918 at Villers-Bretonneux.
His next of kin was his brother, Joseph Bishop, who lived in a camp at Lawry Parade (The Esplanade), Balmoral Beach. [JSB]
