Biographical Summary:
A pastry cook who enlisted in the AIF on 20 February 1915. He embarked for Egypt with the 19th Battalion on 25 June and landed on 23 July 1915.
The battalion was quickly sent to Gallipoli and landed on 21 August. Its withdrawal from Gallipoli was completed in the early hours of 20 December. It then went to Lemnos, Greece before
returning to Egypt on 7 January 1916.
The 19th arrived at Marseilles, France on 25 March 1916 and immediately proceeded to northern France. He was killed in action on 8 October 1917 when his company was in the front line at Passchendaele, Belgium. [JSB]

Portrait on WW1 pictorial honour board is titled 'Sgt D. R. Cowan' but in absence of other Mosman Cowans, assume it to be O. E. Cowan.
Father and sister lived at 293 Military Road, Cremorne.
