Wounded in action four times:
- 25 May 1916 – gun shot wound to left hand;
- 9 October 1917 – gun shot wound to left shoulder;
- 8 April 1918 – gun shot wound to left shoulder; and
- 11 August 1918 – gun shot wound to abdomen.
He was wounded on 11 August 1918 at Framerville by German artillery during an attack by the 19th Battalion on the German line. He was evacuated and died later at the British 55th Casualty Clearing Station located at Vecquemont and was buried nearby at Daours.
