Biographical Summary:
Cousin of Mervyn Bede Welch.
Mother lived at 61 Spit Road.
B Company, 3rd Battalion. Wounded May 1915, Gallipoli – "shrapnel wound scalp, chest and leg, serious."
A letter from Harcourt Welch in his service records, dated 1967, states, in part:
I landed on Gallipoli on 25th of April 1915. I was wounded on the 19th May 1915. Firstly I received a shrapnel wound in my chest & while being carried on strecher received machine gun bullet through my right knee. I rejoined my Battalion after the evacuation from Gallipli and went to France where I served a further 18 months before being invalided to home service in England with trench-feet.
