Biographical Summary:
Enlisted in the AIF in August 1916, less than two years after his migration from England to Australia in November 1914.
He embarked in November 1916 and after his arrival in England in January 1917 he was immediately sent to the 1st Training Battalion. He was taken on strength by the 3rd Battalion in France on 14 November 1917.
He was severely wounded in action, with gunshot wounds to his right knee and left foot, during the 3rd Battalion's participation in the successful attack on the Hindenburg Line near Hargicourt, Somme. He was evacuated within four days to England for treatment and was released from hospital on 27 January 1919.
He departed for Australia on 24 March and arrived in Sydney on 16 May 1919. [JSB]
