For conspicuous gallantry during operations at Paschendale Ridge, East of Ypres. On 6th November 1917, Corpl. Morris was in charge of a front line post which was under continuous heavy barrage. This post was blown in, and Corpl Morris immediately redug and consolidated it, thus setting a splendid example to his men. A few seconds afterwards a liquid fire shell burst on the parapet; this N.C.O. immediately leapt out of the trench with a shovel and succeded in putting the flames out, although under intense artillary fire. He held the post for three days under the heaviest shell fire.
