Biographical Summary:
Jack Evans Herbert, B.E., A.M.I.E.Aust. : Lieutenant, 1st Pioneer Battn., A.I.F., England and France. Enlisting 27th October, 1915, and sailing 14th April, 1916, as second-lieutenant and O.C. Pioneers reinforcements, was, on arrival in England in August, appointed Musketry Officer. Joining battn. (sic) in France 28th May, 1917, served at Ypres, Messines, Somme, Hazebrouck, Amiens and elsewhere until demobilisation, being assistant adjutant from August, 1918. Promoted lieutenant, 1st January, 1917. Early education at Armidale Superior Public and Newcastle High Schools.
