Biographical Summary:
Awarded the Distinguished Service Order and twice Mentioned in Despatches for his service with the 35th Battalion. The recommendation for his DSO reads:
"For conspicuous ability, distinguished service, and devotion to duty as second in command (and for two months in command of the Battalion) during the period 22nd September, 1917 to 24th February, 1918. In training he has shown marked ability and enthusiasm, and the welfare of the men has always been his first care. He has inculcated a splendid spirit throughout the Battalion."
