Elphinstone Henry Moors

Biographical Summary:
Served with the 20th and then the 14th Company, Australian Army Service Corps rising through the ranks from Driver to Company Sergeant Major (Warrant Officer Class 2). He was selected for officer training and at the beginning of 1918 and was sent to No 5 Officer Cadet Battalion, Cambridge. Following his appointment as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry, he joined the 16th Battalion on 29 July 1918.
He was twice wounded during an attack on German positions between Morcourt and Mericourt-sur-Somme on 8 August 1918. He died soon after being evacuated to a dressing station behind the front line near Morcourt.
His death occurred on the first day of the Battle of Amien which marked the beginning of the 100 Day Offensive which culminated in the defeat of Germany and the signing of the Armistice on 11 November 1918. [JSB]
