Biographical Summary:
Sister Ruby Dickinson trained at the Lister Private Hospital, Sydney, 1906-1911. Served with 3AGH Lemnos Sept 1915; returned to Australia on transport duty July 1916; 3AGH Jan 1917; 3AAH Apr 1917; 3AGH France Oct 1917; otitis debility 23 October 1917; 2AAH/1AAH Jan 1918. Died on active service, pneumonia (following influenza) at Southwell Gardens. Buried Harefield Parish churchyard. (Source: Dr Kirsty Harris)
Her mother wrote to the authorities on 22 October 1918:
"I am told she was much appreciated for her steadfastness to duty and nursing skills, much beloved by the sick and wounded for whom she worked so hard. I shall always have the consolation of knowing that she died doing her duty."
A plaque at St. James Anglican Church (173 King Street, Sydney) reads:
In memory of Staff-Nurse Ruby Dickinson who died of pneumonia in London 23rd June 1918 and was laid to rest in Harefield Parish Churchyard England. Erected by her friends and comrades of the Australian Army Nursing Service abroad. Peace perfect peace
There's an Edith Dickinson pictured as part of Mosman's Cheero Girls. A sister or cousin perhaps?
