Biographical Summary:
From the Sydney Morning Herald, Monday 5 November 1917:
Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Angles, of Ulindra, Prince-street, Mosman, have received information that their eldest son, Gunner J. Noel Angles, was killed In France on October 4. He was educated at the Marist Brothers' School, Ridge-street, North Sydney, and was 22 years of age. He was in the employ of Mrs. A. Ferguson, ships' providor, George street North.
On November 3, in the SMH:
ANGLES.-Killed In action in France, October 4, 1917, Gunner J. N. (Noel) Angles, of Mosman, dearly loved friend of Ivy Osborne, of Gouldsbury street, Mosman. True in life, noble in death.
More information on his family comes from a notice in the SMH on the death of his father in 1932:
Mr. James Jules Angles, who died at Mosman last Saturday, had been for 45 years an officer of the Postmaster-General's Department. In recent years he occupied the position of distributor of stamps, and was well known throughout the service. His eldest son, Noel, was killed in action during the Great War. Mrs. Angles and two sons – Gustave and James – survive. The interment at the Waverley Cemetery was attended by the Deputy-Director, Posts and Telegraphs (Mr. J. W. Kitto), and a large number of Mr. Angles's fellow-officers.
