Corporal Leon Barbur, only son of Mr. Charles Barbur, of Mosman, has been killed at Verdun. He left Australia at the beginning of the war, and was 23 years old. His father went through the Franco-Prussian war in 1870-1871, and wears the medal of that campaign.

Léon Charles BARBU served with the Colonial Infantry Regiment of Morocco (Régiment d’Infanterie Coloniale du Maroc) that recaptured Fort Douaumont from the German army in October 1916.
He was killed in that action.
He is commemorated on a plaque in the French Consulate in Sydney.
