Born: 30 October 1895
Died: 14 July 1976
"ALLERTON, J. P." is named on the Mosman Public School and Methodist Church honour rolls, and the Mosman War Memorial, but the service records here mention Moss Vale and Wingecarribee (and the Mapping our Anzacs page shows a user-contributed certificate from that region).
Born and educated at Mosman. His parents lived at 75 Muston Street, Mosman.
He served at Gallipoli with the 7th Australian Light Horse Regiment before being evacuated due to a hernia. He returned to Australia for treatment in August 1915.
On his return to Egypt in May 1916, he joined the 2nd Australian Light Horse Regiment and was allotted to the Machine Gun Squadron. He was wounded in action on 5 November 1917 while his Brigade was in action near Beersheba. He again returned to Australia in early 1918 for "six months change" before again returning to rejoin his unit in July 1918.
