A bank clerk who enlisted in the AIF on 3 July 1916. He embarked for England on 9 November 1916 and arrived on 9 January 1917.
He joined the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade on 29 April 1917. He was wounded (gassed) in action on 6 November 1917. Following treatment and convalescence in France, he rejoined his unit on 18 December 1917.
He was gassed a second time on 21 March 1918. Following initial treatment in France, he was evacuated to England for further treatment and convalescence. In September 1918 he was fit enough to commence training to return to his unit which he rejoined on 10 December 1918.
He embarked for Australia on 16 June 1919 and arrived on 4 August then was discharged from the AIF on 27 September 1919. [JSB]
