A surveyor who enlisted in the AIF on 3 April 1916. He had emigrated to Australia from England without his wife in March 1914. He embarked for England on 18 May 1916 and arrived in late July.
He joined the 1st Battalion on 1 October 1916 when it was in the front line near Ypres, Belgium. He was evacuated on 3 September 1917 to hospital in France and England for treatment of appendicitis. He remained in England and suffered several illnesses requiring further convalescence.
On 5 October 1918 he joined the Australian Flying Corps and commenced training as a flying officer on 2 November. He was appointed a Second Lieutenant on 1 April 1919.
He embarked for Australia on 3 May 1919 and arrived on 21 June then his appointment in the AIF was terminated on 6 August 1919.
His next of kin from the time of his enlistment until early 1918 was his uncle William Howard Jones of 120 Avenue Road, Mosman. William Britt Jones is his cousin. [JSB]
