A station hand who enlisted in the AIF on 5 February 1915. He embarked for Egypt with the 12th Australia Light Horse Regiment (ALH) on 13 June and arrived on 22 July 1915.
The regiment landed at Gallipoli on 28 August and his B Squadron was absorbed into the 7th ALH. He was evacuated on 26 September to Malta with an infected right foot, then to Gibraltar and England for treatment and convalescence.
He returned to Egypt in March 1916 and after further training rejoined the 12th ALH as part of its reformation at Heliopolis, Egypt in late July 1916. On 12 March 1917 he was transferred to the 4th Machine Gun Squadron which was being formed at Ferry Post, Egypt.
He was wounded (nose) in action on 14 July 1918 when his unit was near Al-Auja, Palestine. He was evacuated to Egypt for treatment and convalescence. He rejoined his unit on 23 August.
He embarked for Australia on 24 July and arrived on 28 August 1919 then was discharged from the AIF on 28 October 1919. [JSB]
