An auctioneer who enlisted in the AIF on 24 November 1914. He had 12 years prior service with the Royal Artillery, British Army from which he had been discharged on 25 February 1914. He embarked for Egypt with B Squadron, 12th Light Horse Regiment on 13 June 1915 and arrived on 22 July 1915.
He landed at Gallipoli with the regiment on 29 August 1915. His squadron was attached to the 7th Light Horse Regiment to reinforce its depleted ranks. He was wounded (left arm) in action on 29 September and evacuated to Egypt for treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 13 December and arrived on 14 January 1916. Following further treatment at Randwick Hospital and convalescence he was discharged medically unfit on 17 August 1916. [JSB]
