A bushman who enlisted in the AIF as Harry Eastwood on 9 February 1915, understating his true age of 52 by ten years. He embarked for Egypt with the 18th Battalion on 25 June 1915.
He embarked with the battalion from Alexandria, Egypt for Gallipoli on 16 August and landed on 20 August. He was wounded (head) in action on the night of 27/28 August 1915 during an attack on the Turkish trenches at Hill 60. He was among the 95 from his battalion wounded that night. He was evacuated to England via Lemnos, Greece and Malta for treatment and convalescence.
He embarked for Australia on 8 May and arrived on 19 June, and then discharged from the AIF on 30 September 1916.
His sister Rebecca Charlesworth (nee Eastwood) was his next of kin and she lived in Mosman. [JSB]
