In 1915, he married Robina Reaside Paul, the sister of John Paul, Hugh Lindsay Paul and Archibald Hood Paul.
In early June 1942 he was taken prisoner by the Japanese at Rabaul. He was among the 1054 prisoners on board the SS Montevideo Maru who died when it sank after it was torpedoed by the USS Sturgeon near the northern Philippine coast. [JSB]
