At enlistment, he nominated as next of kin his brother William Henry Clarke, Cab Rank, Mosman who subsequently enlisted and died of wounds on 17 May 1917.
After his brother's enlistment his sister, Ellen (Nellie) Josephine Elliott (nee Clarke) became his next of kin. There is a letter from his sister, Catherine (Katherine) Mary Parkes (nee Clarke), who lived at 72 Cabramatta Road, Mosman and then 78 Paraween Street, Cremorne, seeking to be made next of kin. [JSB]
