Served with the 3rd Battalion in Belgium and France.  He was wounded in action (gunshot wounds head and right wrist) on 10 November 1917 at Passchendaele, Belgium.  He returned to his Battalion on 23 May 1918. 

During an attack at Merris, France, on 20 June 1918, he was killed by German machine gun fire while climbing from his trench.  He was buried nearby but his grave was not located after the war.  He is commemorated at the Villers-Bretonnieux Memorial.  [JSB]
