A station hand who enlisted in the AIF on 19 January 1915. He embarked for Egypt on 22 May 1915.

He joined the 6th Light Horse Regiment at Gallipoli on 2 October 1915. Following the withdrawal he arrived in Egypt on 25 December 1915.

As part of the reorganisation of the AIF, he was transferred to the 15th Field Artillery Brigade (FAB) on 17 March 1916 and on 24 June arrived at Marseilles, France. On 9 July he was transferred to the 25th FAB, then on 24 January 1917 he was transferred to the 14th FAB.

In September 1917 he was evacuated to hospital in France and then England with a fever of unknown origin. He then had an inguinal hernia. After treatment and convalescence, he rejoined the 14th FAB on 25 June 1918.

He was wounded (left leg) in action on 31 August 1918 and evacuated to England for treatment, which included the amputation of his leg, and convalescence.

He embarked for Australia on 6 May 1919 and arrived on 28 June then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 4 April 1920. [JSB]
