A book keeper who enlisted in the AIF on 6 September 1915. He embarked for England on 5 June 1916.

He joined the 45th Battalion then in a rest area at Brucamps, France on 29 October 1916. He was evacuated on 23 November to hospital in France and then England suffering from dysentery.

Following his discharge from hospital in January 1917 he was sent to a holding unit before being transferred to the newly forming 63rd Battalion on 28 April 1917. Following the demobilisation of the 63rd Battalion he was transferred back to the 45th Battalion on 8 September but did not return to France.

On 3 November he was appointed to the permanent staff of the Overseas Training Brigade. Then on 3 April 1918 he was transferred to the Australian Army Pay Corps.

He embarked for Australia on 10 January 1919 and arrived 2 March on then was discharged from the AIF on 19 May 1919.
