A greengrocer who enlisted in the AIF on 18 October 1915. He had served 12 years with the British Army Service Corps between 1894 and 1906 which included three years in the South African War. He embarked for Egypt on 16 February 1916.

He joined the 5th Division Base Depot on 26 May and arrived at Marseilles, France on 15 June 1916. He was transferred to the 17th Company, Australian Army Service Corps on 1 January 1917.

On 15 January 1918 he was evacuated to hospital in France and then England suffering from sciatica. It was decided that he should return to Australia for discharge.

He embarked on 15 April 1918 and arrived on 12 June then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 30 August 1918. [JSB]
