A stockman who enlisted in the AIF on 3 September 1914. He and his brother Arthur Raymond Selman embarked for Egypt with the 1st Battalion on 18 October and arrived on 8 December 1914.

He landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. He was wounded (spinal concussion and shell shock) in action in September when he was buried by a shell. He was evacuated to Mudros, Greece and then Malta for treatment. In March 1916 he was transferred to hospital at Heliopolis, Egypt. A medical board determined that he should return to Australia.

He embarked on 10 June 1916 and arrived on 18 July then was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 23 August 1916. [JSB]
