A boilermaker's assistant who enlisted in the AIF on 23 October 1916. He embarked for England on 17 January and arrived on 23 March 1917.

He joined the 1st Anzac Entrenching Battalion on 21 April 1917 then was transferred to the 2nd Australian Tunnelling Company on 17 May. He was wounded (right ankle and elbow) in action on 6 June 1918 during a German air raid. After initial treatment in France he was evacuated to England on 25 July for further treatment, including the amputation of his right arm.

He embarked for Australia on 19 April 1919 and arrived 7 June. Following further treatment and rehabilitation, he was discharged from the AIF on 27 July 1920. [JSB]
